Your Guide to

Monogram Etiquette

Monogram Etiquette for Babies and Children

Monogrammed Gifts for Children are popular for celebrating their birthday, milestones, and commemorating special occasions, such as christenings. The monogram rules are the same for children as they are adults.  Initials can be placed in first, LAST, middle order. For example, Blair Elizabeth Smith would be bSe. For boys, it is appropriate to use either a first, LAST, middle monogram or first, middle, last order. For example, Bennett Hudson Smith would be BHS. Embroidered names are also a very popular choice and you can never go wrong with this classic touch.

Monogram Etiquette for A Woman

The traditional monogram for a woman places her initials in first, LAST, middle order. For example, Ella Scott Holder would be eHs. Another monogram option for Ella would be to use her first and last initials for a two letter monogram (EH). A more modern touch to her monogram would be to place the initials in first, middle, last order, so her monogram would be ESH.

Monogram Etiquette for A Married Couple

The traditional monogram style for a married couple who share a last name is to combine their name for custom monogram with the wife’s first initial, the shared last name initial in the middle, followed by the husband’s first intial. For example, Anna and William Cooke, would be aCw.

If the couple does not share a last name, the monogram etiquette is to combine their two last names. For example, Anna Smith and William Cooke, would be SC and each letter would be the same size.
